3. Market Square: Durham Indoor Market and Guildhall
Adjacent to the statue of Lord Londonderry is the entrance to the Durham Indoor Market. In the second entrance walkers will find the tattoo parlour and next door the Guildhall. Both places provide possible evidence of a prison cell in the architecture of the building. The Tattoo parlour is said to be the site of a nineteenth century containment cell[7]. The trap door under the counter, leads to a tunnel that is said to connect the cell to North Gate County Jail and the Bridewell (Jimmy Allens) house of correction. Two bouncers/door staff from Jimmy Allens are said to have run screaming from the tunnel that connects the now pub to the market square having been frightened by a ghostly presence.
